Is there a standard definition of what an intern is and how it differs from other types of employment?
An intern is not a permanent position in the organization and is typically one that project-based. It is NOT a position to do the grunt work. It is a position that is specifically designed for students to learn and gain business experience. I always think you should pay interns, but you don't need to pay them at the same rate of other experienced professionals. A successful intern position is one that is supported by a manager and one that is very closely supervised. It needs to be a valuable and meaningful experience for the student as well as the employer.
