I am currently in the planning process for our annual company Wellness Fair. What kind of vendors/health care providers did your employees find to be most beneficial? Other ideas you have used or seen in the past would be great to hear about as well!
A few suggestions: Simple, Low Cost, Healthy Cooking - a Chef is always inspiring Weight Watchers – at one place I worked at we started a WW club at the office during lunch hours with huge results! Not only did we loose weight but we became closer as employees. It was wonderful! We paid for ½ of their membership. Diabetes Awareness – I have found diabetes to be huge in the workplace. Stress Release – The last company I worked at, we determined that over 50% of our staff was taking anxiety/stress reduction/depression medication. Gym Club – again we did this at one place I worked at with huge results and offered a discount. The trainers came up with lunch workouts our employees could complete in an hour including driving, showering, changing. The employees loved it! High Blood Pressure – again a huge topic for employee wellness. High Cholesterol – again another huge topic for employees. Most have no idea they have it. Massage Therapy – offering 15 minute chair massages can be amazingly relaxing. Good luck and have fun!
We had a wellness fair at my company a while back and one of the best things I got out of it was information about health and wellness apps on my iPhone. I always knew there were a ton of apps out there that could help with fitness, weight and calorie tracking, stress-reliever, healthy recipe builders, but I didn't know which were good. My company handed out lists of the best paid vs. free health apps and had a drawing for $5 appstore gift cards. I've already downloaded 2 of the recommendations and am using them daily!

When planning a Wellness Fair - successful planners think of "What's in it for them?". Why would the employees want to attend, and what will their experience be? Will they have learned something and want to attend in the future? Your broker has probably suggested some insurance company help, local wellness vendors, a health screening, a raffle, etc... Also, this event could be a kick-off to other wellness events you have planned throughout the year. There are several things that can be done to make the event memorable and worthwhile for your employees. Rusty Magner Employee Benefits Specialist
